At home in Clifton Beach, Tasmania I am surrounded by monolithic gumtrees. These natives have stood for many years and everyday I'm astounded by their colours, texture and variation in tone. They are both strong yet soft, ever changing, depending on the time of day, weather and season. Observing them has been a daily ritual. These monuments have been a part of my subconscious since returning to Australia nine years ago. Now they form a collection of paintings on paper that I have produced en plein air and in the studio.
